Delaware City Chapter, NSDAR, was organized March 10, 1909. Our chapter was named for the city of Delaware, which in turn was named for the Delaware Indian tribe which settled a village within the boundaries of our present day city. The Indians were named for their original home along the banks of the Delaware River.

The chapter has placed bronze plaques at eight historical sites in the Delaware community and marked more than 28 graves of Revolutionary War patriots within the area. Regular financial and material support is given to all DAR-approved schools, military hospitals, veterans facilities, and American Indian causes. High school students displaying academic excellence in the areas of history and Junior ROTC are honored annually. Honoring and preserving the American flag has always been of major importance to members of the Delaware City Chapter. Matters of flag protocol, including the correct display and disposal of worn and tattered flags, are regularly presented in our meetings. In June, the chapter annually observes Flag Day at which time members gather for a picnic and special program. A program has been introduced by our chapter in local schools in which pre-school and kindergarten level students are awarded a certificate and small American flag as they learn the Pledge of Allegiance. Constitution Week is another important event the chapter annually observes, promoting public awareness by creating display presentations at the local library or in a store window. Genealogical workshops have also been conducted in the community to assist the public in family history preservation. These are but a few of the many projects undertaken. Delaware City Chapter has a legacy of endearing friendships, an avidly shared interest in genealogical research, a deep abiding love for our country and great respect for the Flag of the United States of America.
